Local Forest School offering nature games, craft and bushcraft activities raising children's self-es
Last week we opened our new half-term at Forest School with a beautiful activity all about family.![]()

Each child collected leaves to represent the special people in their lives and even beloved pets, before creating their own family tree collage. There was such pride as everyone shared who makes up their world. The sparkle in their eyes while showing their finished trees said it all.![]()

Moments like these remind me how important it is that every child feels deeply seen, valued, and welcomed at Forest School. This session created a strong sense of belonging, to their own families and to our little forest community too.![]()

Together we talked about how trees grow, exploring the anchoring role of roots that help us reach high and wide. Surrounded by real trees, the analogy came alive. The children noticed the incredible variety in leaves,discovering that just like trees, no two families (or children) are the same.![]()

It was a privilege to hold space for each child to share their story, deciding carefully where to place each leaf and speaking about the people they love with such care and tenderness.![]()

A perfect reminder of how much learning happens at Forest School through play, exploration, connection, and nature. 🌱![]()

Last week at forest school, we read The Last Leaf, a tender story about facing our fears, trusting, and learning to let go. Afterwards, we wandered through the woods collecting autumn’s treasures; leaves, moss, lichens, seeds, feathers and sticks, pockets and palms full of colour and wonder.![]()

Back at basecamp, we turned our finds into autumnal sun catchers, each one a small celebration of the season’s change, light shining through the things we once held onto. ![]()

There’s something about the forest that helps us to soften, to breathe, to release what we don’t need to carry. The children remind us daily that courage can be quiet, that letting go can be beautiful, and that nature holds space for it all. ![]()

A golden autumn afternoon at Forest School @westfieldprimary![]()

The sun filtered gently through the canopy, lighting up a carpet of acorns beneath the most majestic oak trees, one of them at least 400 years old. Imagine all the stories it could tell!![]()

We spoke about the oak, its strength and resilience, and then the children set about creating little “oak people” from acorns and toothpicks.![]()
![]()
It wasn’t easy. For a moment I even wondered whether the challenge was too big… but the children proved me wrong. They didn’t give up. They problem-solved, collaborated, and showed determination, turning frustration into creativity, and small acorns into characterful little people.![]()
